Have an enjoyable holiday!

Dear All,

As we round off 2017, here's hoping you've gotten something; even a little bit worthwhile, from having your eyes shut, as above, on Tuesdays in Chelsea, and/or at home, trying to achieve your 'thoughtless awareness', this past year. You'll be happy to know that it does get easier.

How? Apparently, the more people that are doing something, the easier it becomes for everybody else. That's according to a theory by Author & Biologist, Rupert Sheldrake, that there's a collective memory in Nature that we tap into[1]. This applies to sahaja yoga meditation and getting into thoughtlesss awareness.

Since the state of thoughtless awareness is the key to achieving everything you've ever wanted (- you may not know it just yet :o) ), here's a little something you can use as motivation to achieving even a few seconds of thoughtless awareness at a time, to make 2018 a transformative year for you.

Freedom, Happiness and Money, are, apparently, 3 of the top 10 things most people want but can't seem to get.* The other things are shown below, along with where they sit within us, with the promise that with the advantage you have of sahaja yoga meditation, you can open some doors within and without.

Tomorrow's is the last group meditation session of the 2017. We'll be back on 9th January. However, you can still keep in touch - I may still send out guided meditation & meditation music clips on our whatsapp group during the break. If you want to be included in the group then send the  whatsapp message 'Chelsea SY' and your first name to my mobile .

Have an enjoyable holiday!

From Effort to No Effort - a small tip on getting something very Big.

Dear All,

No time to meditate? Below are 2 charts to give you a little encouragement in the right direction. The first one shows you the path to your success. And the second one is what some of you told me about the benefits you got from just trying a little bit.

If you're already meditating regularly, there's still something you can take away from both charts.

Chart 1:

Here's that quote again from last week about why the state of thoughtless awareness in human beings is a big deal:
" But when you are inside that you are in thoughtless awareness. Then, not only that you are there, but you are everywhere, because that is the place, that is the point where you are really in universal… From there you are in contact with the Principle, with the Shakti, with the Power that permeates into every particle that is matter, into every thought that is emotion, into every planning and thinking of the whole world. You permeate into all the elements that have created this beautiful Earth. You permeate into earth; you permeate into Akasha [sky, ether], into teja [light], into sound." Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi , India, March 30th 1976.
(Chart 1 could represent any kind of evolutionary transition in species. For example: fish massing in shallow water and then developing 'feet' to become the first land mammals. See Tiktaalik)

Chart 2:

'How Has Sahaja Yoga Meditation Helped You'
(Chart 2 is the result of a survey sent out earlier this year).

If you're really pushed for time in the morning, the least you could do is to raise your kundalini and put on a bandhan before leaving the house. Something is better than nothing, and you may even begin to to feel the postive effect of that. Click here for how to do it properly.

See you at group meditation tomorrow. By the way tomorrow's is the last but one session we're having this year. Tuesday 19th is our last meet for the year and then we're back January 9th. Try and finish 2017 on a high by coming to these 2 last sessions if you can make it.

How to impress the boss and get to where you want to go.

Dear All,

Here's how to conquer Oxford Street and impress your boss/clients with your creativity and brilliance from doing this simple exercise, wherever and whenever.

First off, the 'Oxford street' we're talking about is the one in your head; of thoughts, moods and emotions that chase each other like a trail of London buses at a busy intersection with it's crowds of shoppers, and which doesn't help you to easily get to where you want to go.

And where do you want to go? Peace & Happiness, right?

So here's what you do: right there on the street, just stop! just stop and stand still - on the real Oxford street, people seem to do this all the time :o) . You could actually be at your desk at work, or out walking, or on the tube, or at home. Just cut into your train of thought and stop.

Shift your attention to the top of your head and hold it there as if you're balancing a ball on top of your head. Hold for 5 seconds; and it's as if you're holding your breath, but you're not - it's very gentle abdominal breathing that takes care of itself. Your back is straight. Let it go. Do another 5 seconds. Let it go . And then another 5 seconds.

Here's what will happen or should start happening: where your attention goes , your kundalini follows, so the kundalini's cool sensation will start to be felt at the top of the head. It's like working a muscle by repeated exercise. So try it wherever and whenever and you'll be developing your ability to achieve the 'thoughtless awareness' state.

When you then sit down for your dedicated 10 minutes of meditation, you'll find it much easier.

And about that increased creativity and brilliance; a scientific study on sahaja yoga meditation was published last year which shows that regular practice increases the grey matter  in your brain - basically your brain gets better. Click here to see the paper.

Some indication of how extraordinary being able to achieve thoughtless awareness is, even for only a few seconds at a time, is  given in this quote of Shri Mataji's from 1976 : 'You penetrate into matter' .

See you at group meditation tomorrow.

The answer lies in the palms of your hands.

Dear All,

Whatever the issue you may be facing, the key to resolving it lies on the chakras and the chakras are reflected on your fingers.

Here's how to understand yourself better and be your own doctor. If you feel a tingling or numbness on any particular finger when held out in front of your meditation photo, then below is the  likely explanation of what it is and what to do about it in order to 'cure' yourself.

This is to be done along with your meditation.

'You look wonderful ! What have you been doing?'

Dear All,

If you've ever had a 'gut-feeling' about something that turned out to be correct or experienced 'butterflies in the stomach' before an important meeting, then you know, instinctively, something that science has come to accept relatively recently: that the gut/stomach acts as a 'second brain'[1].

And that's not all. The pay-off for managing to achieve thoughtless awareness in your meditation, even if only for a few seconds at a time, is that vibes are then able to flow downwards through the fontanel at top of head into the stomach( nabhi chakra) where they break down into the 'subtle elements' ('tanmatra') and begin to improve your appearance (no matter how good you already look :o)  ).

The picture below shows what's actually happening and although the process is generally weak at this stage in our collective experience of sahaja yoga, and the effect therefore is not so mind-blowingly dramatic, there's huge potential in all that, as yet, untapped power of your kundalini. We're just getting a trickle of water for what will become a gushing river.

Further below is what you can do when you meditate to help your 'rejuvenation' and hopefully move us closer to a prediction about sahaja yoga, that in future people will no longer get sick or grow old[2].

You can use your hands to channel vibes, so when meditating at home, spend a few minutes towards the end with left hand on lap to catch flow of vibes from meditation photo and direct into nabhi chakra by placing fingers of right hand on navel(belly-button), as we do at Tuesday group meditation.

And of course, check out this 7-minute video clip : click on  How Effects of Meditation Can Show on the Face.

Just so that you know I'm not making stuff up about people no longer getting sick or old, there are some science, sociology and historical pointers in links further down.

How to be Happier at Work.

Dear All,

Have you ever stood up in the office and announced, with a beaming smile on your face: 'I can't believe I'm being paid to do this?'. You probably haven't.

The results of  two surveys published in the paper today says that two out of five people are unhappy at work and four out of five have anxiety.  To cope with this, the report says, people listen to music, watch TV, read a book, drink alcohol or exercise, which is fine - apart from maybe the sedating with alcohol- but all these things don't necessarily 'nourish the soul'.

This is why investing a little time in yourself daily to meditate can pay massive dividends in giving you a sense of purpose and fulfillment. The way this happens is by the integration that takes place between right swadisthana chakra (the attention/the liver), left heart chakra( the 'atma' or spirit/heart) and the sahasrara chakra(vibrations/brain - limbic system).

The reason why this works is because one of the main causes of the dissatisfaction people feel is due to a sense of inner dislocation, and the meditation fixes it by helping you to achieve a self-integration - described in 2 minutes here.

Try the suggested meditation in photo below.

How to get Mental Clarity with this Simple Ayurveda Treatment + a 15min Biography.

Dear All,

Have you tried the ghee (clarified butter) in your nose yet? Why would you want to do that?

Well, somebody described achieving thoughtless awareness in meditation as like ocean surfing - he lives in Sydney, Australia, by the way- on a good day, if you catch the wave just right then you can ride it for quite sometime. On other days it may be difficult to get a good wave at all. But the more practice you get; the more good rides you have.

Ghee up the nose is like waxing the surfboard so your feet don't slip and you can ride for longer. It's all to do with the chakra at the bridge of the nose, called 'Hamsa' chakra. The Hamsa is at the point in the head where the left and right channels cross-over and so represents a point of balance. If the hamsa is in a good state then it's easier to achieve that state of centred stillness(being in the present moment) that leads into thoughtless awareness.

And it's not just all about the meditation. If you ever feel congested in the head, have dryness in the nose -from sitting in a room with all the windows closed and the heating on (which is likely to be most of us as it gets colder); or if you're a singer, then administering a few drops of warm ghee in the nostrils before bedtime can lead to more mental clarity, relief from sinusitis and give better quality to your voice.

Click here for how to make ghee at home and click here for how to adminster it.

Here's something I sent out last Friday to those of you on the whatsapp group which I thought I'd email as well for those not on the group - It's a quick biography of Shri Mataji.

Sweating it out.

Dear All,

How you feel physically has a strong bearing on how you feel mentally. It's easier to be optimistic about things when you're well than it is when you're not feeling so great. Sahaja yoga meditation is great for lifting the mood and a little bit of exercise adds to the effect.

As with everything there's a happy balance to be had between too much and too little. If you're hitting the gym five times a week then that's likely to lead to an over-active right-side that can make it harder to sit still, go quiet in your head and meditate. If you rarely take any exercise then that can lead to left-sideness and the lack of a sense of progressing.

Walking more is probably the easiest route to getting more exercise. However, taking some exercise once a week that actually makes you sweat has huge benefit. This is supported by the evidence of some of the treatments in Ayurvedic medicine ie. 'panchakarma'.

There's a law of the universe* which, roughly translated, says that everything eventually ends up in a rut or eventually becomes boring. This especially the case if you're stuck in any sort of routine. The law applies to the body as well. Sweating it out is one way of kicking yourself mentally and physically out of a rut.

Having a peak meditative experience can also lead to a huge positive life shift (a massive kick out of a rut); the kind of experience reported by these people who have been practicing sahaja yoga meditation - Click Here

Live Fearlessly!

Dear All,

A friend of mine was telling me that they have to put on their armour in the morning because going to work is like going into a battlefield. If this is you, then you need to chill. Here's how your daily sahaja yoga meditation is making you more lion-hearted.

When the kundalini rises in you, like the sap up a tree, during your 10 minute morning meditation, 3 things are happening in you:

Firstly, you're getting more of those brain waves('Theta waves')[1] associated with positive mood/emotion & creativity. Secondly, you're increasing your 'flow' or 'connectedness'[2] that can bring about some pleasant surprises during your day. Thirdly, the 'vibes' you feel above your head as the cool breeze sensation, flow back down into the chakras to strengthen them and make you better. Especially, the Heart.

The Heart Chakra is the chakra of fearlessness and a feeling of complete security. So the more regular your meditation, the more the heart chakra improves and the more secure you feel within yourself.

Interestingly, in medical terms, the heart chakra, amongst other things, looks after a gland that exists in us until about the age of 12 years, called the Thymus. The Thymus is part of the body's defence system against virus and bacterial infections. So it could well be that the stronger your heart chakra, the more resilient your immune system. Your protection is in-built.

Meditate. Develop a Lion's Heart. Live Fearlessly!

Relax your Feet, Relax your Mind !

Dear All,

If you haven't yet experienced the amazing health and relaxation benefits of spending 10 minutes in a simple footspa when you come home from your busy day, then you don't know what you're missing. Here's a quick reminder of how to suck the tensions of the day out through your feet.

First of all, there's no need to actually go and buy a footspa; which are advertised online for anywhere between $25 - $90. You can improvise a footspa by getting a spare plastic washing up bowl - large enough for your feet to fit into, and some course sea salt.

The footspa is best done directly you come home or before you go to bed; and is done as part of the small time you set aside for evening meditation.

Here are the steps involved
  1. Half fill your bowl up with cool to luke-warm water - the cooler the better.
  2. Sprinkle a small handful of the sea salt into the water
  3. Place your feet in the water, keeping your palms open on your lap and eyes open facing meditation photo (as shown below)
  4. Rest your feet in the water for about 10 minutes, noticing any sensations in the body indicating the movement of the kundalini as she cleanses the chakras.
  5. Take your feet out and rinse them off with a jug of water beside you and then dry your feet.
  6. Now close your eyes and go into thoughtless awareness meditation for another 5 minutes. Then finish your meditation by raising the kundalini and putting on a bandhan.
If any of that was unclear then take a look at Sulu demonstrating a 'footsoak' - Click here.

Two further points:
1. You can massage you feet with some coconut oil as an optional extra after the footspa and meditation. According to Ayurveda(traditional Indian medicine) - it improves circulation and tones the whole body.

2. While the footspa is for generalised beneficial use, it's particularly effective as a remedy for 'right-sidedness' caused by the hectic pace of life - 'hot liver, hot head'. However, you may have a constitution which is more 'left-sided' or lethargic - 'cold hands, cold feet', in which case the candle treatment may be more effective and beneficial. Click here.

Success! Getting Your Timing Right.

Dear All,

In today's New York Times newspaper, there is this article about the Nobel Prize in Medicine being awarded for research into how the biological clock works. Here's how it's related to your success in meditation and other things you may be trying to achieve.

It could be all about the timing[1]

The biological clock /circadian rhythm is most noticeable to us when we haven't had enough sleep and feel lousy the next day. What you may also have noticed is that you're more likely to come up with inspirational ideas first thing in the morning than you are after lunch, say.

The reason why this is, according to an ancient Indian understanding of time, is that a day or 24 hours can be split into chunks of 48 minutes called 'Muhurtas'. Whether or not it's a good time to do something is determined by the nature of the particular muhurta , which can be 'inauspicious' , 'auspicious' or 'very auspicious'.

Over the course of a 24 hour day, there are only two 'very auspicious' muhurtas and both of them are related to yoga. The first occurs between 02:00 - 02:48 at night and is called 'Jiva/Amrta' (life/immortal) . The second one occurs in the early hours of the morning between 04:24 - 05:12* and is called Brahma muhurta.

It's this second one that has been highly recommended for meditation because a new day is being freshly born and you have the power to shape what happens by catching the day at it's root. The meditation is effortless.

If you're undergoing any challenging period personally or in any other way, make a point of getting up early in the morning before anybody else is awake and meditating. The problems will solve themselves.

Regular meditation develops in you what the Chinese call, 'Wu wei' - 'going with the flow' or 'effortless action' on which some of Chinese martial arts is based and which also underpins the philosophy of the ' I Ching' ( 'The Book of Changes').

Then the success you want to achieve in anything comes, not by planning, but by unconsciously being in the right place or doing the right thing at the right time.

In this 8 minute clip, Shri Mataji describes how this happens in you as a result of your kundalini's connection to the all-pervading energy of existence, the 'Paramchaitanya'. (Click Here).

See you at group meditation tomorrow.

Regards

* The brahma muhurta actually begins at 96 mins or roughly one and a half hours before sun-rise. UK current sunrise is about 7am so brahma muhurta timing in UK at the moment is 05:30 - 06:18. It may be easier for you to get up at this time to meditate than getting up at 04:30.

The iPhone8 & How to Make Something of Yourself.

Dear All,

Below is an image that can help you understand a lot about yourself and also help you fulfill the aspirations in you that money can't buy.

First though, here's how you're similar to the new iphone 8 above. In case you haven't already coughed up the $1000 needed to purchase one, fyi it has wireless charging. And so do you. How?

Everytime , you sit for your 5-10 minutes daily meditation, 2 things happen: 1. your kundalini goes up and continues with her work of establishing peace and contentment in you as a permanent feature and 2. the vibes that flow down from the top of your head into the body, begin to nourish your chakras - this is why people report feeling and looking better even after a few weeks of regular meditation. The vibes pour vitality into you and you get 'charged'.

The second way you're similar to any smartphone is this: On the phone above there are icons representing the different apps on the phone, for example twitter and instagram. When you tap the icons they open up the app and you can make use of their functionality.

According to a sahaja yoga understanding, the essence or energy of a chakra is represented by archetypes/deities - similar to Jungian archetypes in Depth Psychology. The archetypes can be likened to icons. When you 'tap' the archetype, by using a mantra, then the energy ('functionality') of the archetype is strengthened within you.

So depending on which aspect of yourself you choose to 'work on', you can tap in yourself your creativity, your courage and fearless nature, your compassion and love, your material satisfaction and so on. It's all shown in the image below. Click here to first read about Jungian archetypes.

All that's left then is  to tell you about the mantras for each chakra. Given below is the name of each archetype against each image. When you wish to say the mantra for a particular chakra just insert the name of the corresponding archetype/deity into the following 'formula':

Om twam eva sakshat, Shri <insert the name here> sakshat, Shri Adi shakti mataji, Shri Nirmala Devi namoh, namah!

The best way to start experimenting with mantras is to download/listen to this mp3 of me saying them - click here. You can then print out the image below (attached as pdf file) and follow along with the sheet in front of you. See whether you begin to notice the effect of the mantras on the vibes you're feeling.

If any of this is not quite clear then feel free to email me back with any questions you have or come and speak to me on Tuesday.

See you at group meditation tomorrow.

Problem-solving with 'Breath Meditation'

Dear All,

In case you haven't yet experienced it, touching the state of 'thoughtless awareness' with your meditation can actually produce solutions to any difficulties or challenges(big or small) that we all face from time to time.

Below is a guide to that 5 minute 'Breathing Meditation' we tried in class last Tuesday, to help you do exactly that. Watch the demo video(click here) to better understand the breathing part of the exercise.

The Power of Group Meditation + How Candle Light can Cure.

Dear All,

If you had been thinking about it, it's not too late to get a tremendous boost by joining the many others on the free* one-day SY meditation retreat this Saturday 9th Sept. Click here to register.

As you know when you come to the Tuesday group meditation session, the nourishment from the vibes can transform the rest of your week in a positive way and shift something you may have been struggling with.

And that's only at most 30 -40 of us  in a room for about an hour. Imagine if there are 100+ in group meditation on and off for the best part of a day, as at this Saturday's one-day retreat. The effect might be like the one captured in the photos above from a Russian SY seminar 2009.

As it becomes cooler outside and the weather turns autumnal, there's a tendency to become left-sided, especially if the fun of your summer holiday is fast fading into a nostalgic memory. Left-sided-ness can sometimes give feelings of lethargy, emotional disatisfaction and a general pessimism about things[1]. The cure for that is by use of candle light with your meditation in a slightly different way demonstrated in this short video clip : click here.

Chasing the Clouds Away.

Dear All,
A clouded heart or nabhi chakra could be the underlying reason why certain things may not be panning out at the moment in life, in the way we'd wish. What can you do about it?

Somebody suggested that their experience at a previous sahaja yoga meditation retreat was like taking your clothes to the laundry for drycleaning - everything comes out fresh, crisp and clean at the end.

This could be because of the cleansing effect on the aura of the kundalini in the group meditations.

There's more to you than meets the eye and you can learn all about it.

If you reported a problem last week with submitting your online registration form for the free* 1-day sahaja yoga meditation retreat on Saturday 9th Sept., it should be OK. Click here to try again.

What this simple self-head massage can do for you.

Dear All,

Achieving the full opening out of sahasrara chakra at the top of your head should be one of the goals of your regular meditation.

Why?

Because not only has the sahasrara been described in ancient yogic text as 'sudha sagara' - 'nectar ocean of bliss' or the place of your 'heaven on earth',  but because medically, it represents the root of the nervous system and anything wrong in the body can be more effectively corrected there. The 'pittas' or roots of the chakras lie on the mid-section of the brain in a region called the Corpus Callosum. See picture shown below:

In traditional Indian medicine, Ayurveda, there's a treatment called Shirodhara, which is a soothing head massage with a stream of warm medicated oil, as in the photo at top.

According to an Ayurveda website*:
"Shirodhara is a great treatment for a compromised nervous system. Shirodharacan help relieve symptoms of anxiety, stress, fatigue and hypertension. It relieves tension, worry, fear and headache as well as depression. It regulates mood and gives feelings of pleasure and relaxation".

But you'd probably have to travel all the way to Kerala in South India for an authentic experience of this. However, you can gain the same benefit by spending 5 minutes doing a simple self-head massage with the fingers on the chakra locations on the head. Here's how to do it - click here.

When the massage is done with some coconut oil, deep into the scalp, you'll notice the effect straightaway as an increased ability to feel vibes in the sahasrara, which may last for sometime after you've finished your meditation.

The better the state of the sahasrara, the easier it is to get into 'thoughtless awareness' in your meditation and the better your connection. That's when you really start experiencing the transformative magic of sahaja yoga.

See you at group meditation tomorrow.
