Talking Your Way Up. How Social Lubrication Advances Your Life & Work.

What’s you’re communication style? People who are smooth talkers seem to go a long way.
In the early part of my career I worked for a short time in the ‘engine-room’ of the British economy, which is what the banks and financial institutions in the City of London has been described as.
I worked at a retail futures and options brokerage near Moorgate tube station.
The day would begin at about 8am with an overview from the firm’s economist of the international currency and commodities markets. They would then set out the trades we would be pitching to clients that day. We’d then all disperse back to our desks to hit the phones in earnest.
All that hollering I did down the phone day after day during that time didn’t do my Vishuddhi chakra much good, because when I came to Sahaja yoga, the sensitivity to vibes on my hands (which are linked to the Vishuddhi) wasn’t great. I couldn’t feel anything.
There was a bunch of people at the brokerage however, who had no need of hollering. These were the ‘smooth talkers’ ; individuals with the gift of the gab who could sell snow to Eskimos or sand to the Arabs.
It was these so-called ‘wide-boys’ (predominantly males for whom there was a wide gap between what they were telling somebody and what the actual truth was), who ended up with the envelops stuffed with cash or the keys to Ferraris on a Friday. This was a 'thank you!' from the firm’s owners, for boosting profits.
Smooth talking though need not be about deception. One of the qualities that can start to show on your Vishuddhi chakra is called in Sanskrit, ‘madhurya’, meaning the sweetness of honey.
This is the empathy that allows you to be a better people-person and ultimately creates the social lubrication that benefits your personal and work life.
According to the madhurashtakam, an ancient Sanskrit hymn to Krishna, the deity of your Vishuddhi, other qualities you can acquire include benefits to your eyes, ears, mouth and facial appearance (relaxed).
This is because your Vishuddhi chakra in your throat looks after all of these.
There’s one additional quality you get from your Vishuddhi, which only really kicks in with your daily kundalini meditation. That quality is called ‘sakshi-swarupa-twa’ or ‘witnessing power’.
What this power allows you to do is to be more zen in your approach to life. This zen state that you achieve has a dynamism all of its own. You ‘watch’ an issue with your meditative attention and the issue resolves itself.
It’s like bending spoons by staring at them. Practice and see for yourself what happens. More below.
