Taking Orders Can Make You Sick. How to Thrive by Leading Yourself.
Dear Friend,
Having to take orders all the time is not good for your health. This is especially true in a work environment.
The reason why is because “ low control at work raises stress hormones like cortisol. Chronic stress increases the risk of high blood pressure and heart disease”[1].
In addition to that, “Feeling powerless leads to emotional exhaustion and low motivation”. Plus, “not making your own choices harms your mental well-being”[1].
In the circumstances, what can you do?
The recommended advice is to: 1. set boundaries 2. seek autonomy 3. talk about it 4. plan an exit.[1]
This may work for some people, but not for everybody. Here’s why your yoga has you covered.
When your kundalini rises up from her seat in the Muladhar (sacrum bone), she enters your abdominal viscera, referred to in yoga as the ‘Void’ or ‘Bhavasagara’ (meaning ‘ocean of illusion’).
As she spreads out in your Void, she begins to enlighten your ‘guru tattwa’, the essence of self-guidance that everyone has within them.
This inner light brings the beginning of self-knowledge (‘atma-bodha’) through direct experience of your ‘subtle body’ (‘sukshma sharira’) when you can feel your own vibes.
By establishing yourself in your self (atma / spirit) with your daily meditation, your Sahasrara chakra (crown) blossoms and manifests as ‘Nirishwara’, meaning ‘no overlord’ or ‘no master’.
You have a subtle crown on your head, which is symbolic of ‘self-rule’ (‘Swaraj’).
Though in the mundane setting of a work environment, you may seem bound by the need to comply, it doesn’t really touch you. It all runs off you, like water off a ducks back.
The result is that not only are you able to protect your physical, mental and emotional well-being, you can actually thrive as well. More below.

Best wishes
