When you learn to 'listen' to your hands and fingers during meditation, they act as an 'early warning' system that helps you protect your health.
Take Diabetes for example. According to the American Diabetes Association, diabetes is the fastest growing chronic disease globally. 422 million people have it and 1.5 million people die every year as a result (World Health Organisation ).
The most common type of diabetes is Type 2 Diabetes or Adult-onset diabetes which affects about 4.8 million people in the UK. This figure includes the predicted 1 million people who have it but don't know (undiagnosed cases).
The symptoms of diabetes could include : excessive urination (especially at night), feeling thirsty or hungry a lot and feelings of tiredness.
Common risk factors for developing diabetes are being overweight and not taking enough physical exercise.
Although diabetes is marked by insulin-resistance or insufficient insulin production by the Pancreas, leading to elevated blood sugar levels, the actual 'pathogenesis' ( origin of disease) is not fully understood.
According to Shri Mataji, diabetes is a result of an imbalance relating to the right swadisthana chakra.
The right swadisthana is the 'subtle body' ( sukshma sharira) 'feeder' of the organs of the liver , pancreas, spleen, kidneys and part of the intestines.
When the liver, which converts fat to glycogen for brain activity, oversubscribes the feed due to worry, mental stress, excessive thinking, then there's less supply to the other organs. The other organs, including the pancreas, may suffer a drop in function as a result.
When you sit down for meditation and can feel your right thumb tingling that's a warning that your right swadisthan chakra is out. Rub your right thumb to clear your right swadisthan and you may just have prevented the onset of diabetes.
