Making Better Decisions. The Power of Your Hamsa (Discriminative Awareness).

Making Better Decisions. The Power of Your Hamsa (Discriminative Awareness).

Dear Friend,

You'd probably be surprised to know that you (and everybody else) make something like 35,000 decisions a dayaccording to this post in Psychology Today.

In a typical day, a lot of this deciding is about the small things. This could include deciding what you're going to wear, for example.

Occasionally, a small decision may end up being consequential. Such as deciding to take a left rather than a right and encountering an unexpected opportunity or a threat.

But, it's generally agreed, the really big decisions people have to make usually relate to 5 areas:
  • Relationships & Family
  • Career & Education
  • Finances & Housing
  • Location & Lifestyle
  • Health & Wellbeing
What may surprise you even more is how your sense of smell, or, more precisely your Hamsa chakra which looks after your olfactory bulb, helps you make better decisions.

Using the sense of smell to make a decision is well-developed in animals. If you have a pet dog, for example, then you already know that they can smell danger.

In human beings, this discriminative awareness which comes from the sense of smell is not so well developed. It can be trained in certain professions such as perfumiers and sommeliers.

Your discriminative awareness and therefore your ability to make better decisions, improves as your hamsa improves with your daily kundalini meditation. More below.

Also below: a simple Ayurvedic practice that improves your hamsa; and, a simple meditation to improve your focus and creativity.

Best wishes

P.

Nasal Oil Therapy for Lubricating Sinuses & Mental Clarity.
The downside of spending a lot of time in air-conditioned spaces, such as an office, is that it tends to dry out your sinuses. Your sinuses are your first line of defense against air-borne infection, by producing mucus. To restore the optimum functioning of your sinuses, this Ayurvedic nasal treatment is beneficial. Use warm ghee, which you can make at home. The added bonus is that it gives you mental clarity and improves your Hamsa chakra...
Getting More Done with Less Effort by Improving Focus & Creativity ( a Meditation).
Before I start a piece of work, I take a few moments to meditate on what I want to achieve by the end of it. I hold the goal at Sahasara (crown of head) and then I go thoughtless for about a minute. What then typically happens when I start that work is that there's less 'friction' and things flow better. I'm able to get more done with less effort. Here's a meditation you can use to try this...
Making Better Decisions- Judge Everything on Vibes.
The discriminative awareness that comes to you from your hamsa chakra is an intuitive reflex - you just know. However, it's closely related to your awareness of the vibes different possible choices give out. If in doubt about any decision you have to make then try and judge it on vibes, as advised...

Quote of the Week

" To understand Hamsa chakra - there’s a beautiful couplet about this in Sanskrit: ““Hamsah shvetah, bakah shvetah. kah bhedah hamsa bakayo? Nira-kshira viveketu. Hamsah hamsah, bakah bakah.”

Meaning ‘The crane and the swan, both are white. And what makes a difference between the two? If you mix the water and the milk together the hamsa (swan) will just suck in the milk. So it can discriminate between the water and the milk while the bakha, means the crane, cannot’."

What's the Sahaja yoga remedy for Flu and Cold?
In Reply:

There's no specific Sahaj remedy for Flu and Cold.

However, given how  Ayurvedic medicine aligns closely with Sahaja yoga, there are a few things you can do to alleviate the symptoms based on Ayurveda.
  • Tulsi (Holy Basil) - Boil the leaves down and drink the decoction as a tea with a little honey. This will act as a decongestant and soothe the throat. Basil is also an antiviral and supports a strong immune system.
  • Ginger - It's easy to just buy some lemon and ginger tea, but you'll probably get a stronger effect from buying the actual ginger root, peeling, slicing and boiling that to make a decoction for drinking with some honey. Ginger is anti-inflammatory, clears mucus and helps digestion.
  • Turmeric - Add a pinch to warm milk and drink that . It's also anti-inflammatory and can help to ease body aches.
