Katya Rubia is Professor of Cognitive Neuroscience at King's College, London.

She has received awards and recognition for scientific excellence. Her scientific research papers have been in the top 1% of cited papers in her field.

She has collaborated with other neuroscientists to investigate and publish findings about the brain enhancement effects from the regular practice of Sahaja yoga meditation (SYM).

Two most recent papers relate to how SYM increases the volume of grey matter in your brain and how the functional connectivity in your brain is also enhanced.

Grey matter  is responsible for memory, emotions and decision-making.

Functional connectivity determines how well your different brain regions communicate with each other. It's responsible for learning and creativity.

My friend who has no experience with Sahaja yoga says that they already have their kundalini awakened. What makes Sahaja yoga unique?

There are people with their kundalini already awakened. They were usually born that way and so are called 'born-realised'.

They are many historical figures who were born-realised. Two examples are Mozart and Shakespeare. 

The born-realised tend to be artists of one kind or another because that is usually the only route that allows them to gain fulfilment by channeling their unique sensibility.

The difference between a born-realised and Sahaja yoga is that a born-realised is usually not aware of their kundalini and cannot pass on the experience of it. 

With Sahaja yoga, you do become aware of your own kundalini, as the cool breeze on top of your head and on your hands. And you can pass this experience on to other people.
