Finding Your Sweet Spot. 'Bindu-Sarvananda' - Making Everything Feel Good.

Dear Friend,

You're made for bliss.

If you use the length of your  pointing finger to measure the distance from the middle of your forehead (starting at the hairline)  to the top of your head, the tip of your finger rests on  a subtle point called 'bindu sarvananda'.

In Sanskrit, 'bindu' means 'dot' ( point origin of the universe). 'Sarvananda' is made up of two words : 'sarva' meaning 'everything' and 'ananda' meaning 'joy' or 'bliss'.

So 'bindu sarvananda' means 'the source of all-pervading joy /bliss'.

This point is triggered by the steady inward flow of your 'chitta' (attention) caused by your kundalini during meditation.

Without the awakened kundalini, the normal human attention flows outwards and gets stuck to or attached to the phenomena of existence  - the stuff of waking consciousness.

This could be people, places, things, ideas etc. which creates 'vritti' or fluctuations in the attention ( 'chitta').

It is this vritti that gives the up and down nature of our experience of daily life.

Your kundalini is 'chitta vritti nirodha' . it stops (nirodha) the flactuations (vritti) of your attention (chitta).

This is how she tries to achieve yoga (union) in you.

By this she gives you the experience of reality through your  bindu-sarvananda, where everything gets coloured with good, good feelings (nirvana). More below.

Best wishes

Akshaya Tritya - Wishing For Something That Lasts (a Meditation).
Akshaya Tritya ('indestructible 3rd') on the Indian lunar calendar, is said to be a day that guarantees the success and durability of any venture began on that day. This is why many people in India choose it for buying gold, getting married or starting a new business. This year Akshaya Tritya is on 29th/30th April. You can test whether this works for you, by using this short meditation in the lead up to it...
Making Everything Feel Good .

Quote of the Week

"The first one is Shri Lalita, the Goddess Shri Lalita, which is the goddess of beauty. She is the joy giving, Sarvanandamaya. Gives the joy from everything. In every created world, in every particle, in every form, there is a power which gives us joy. This power is the power of Shri Lalita. She is called as Mahatripurasundari, Para [highest], Para Atirahasya Yogini, means ‘Para Para Atirahasya [secrets]’, ‘the One who knows the secrets.’ The ‘Para’. ‘Para’ means ‘the one that is beyond of the beyond’, the secrets of that area. The one who knows is Shri Lalita, who is the Yogini. At this state She is Bindu Sarvanandamaya. She is the dot [Bindu] which is joy giving."

Regarding depression (last week's newsletter), I find that doing breathwork helps me. How might this relate to the yoga?
In Reply:

Your subtle (yogic) body has 3 main 'nadis' (channels) :
  • Ida nadi (left channel). The channel of 'manas' (emotions/mental impressions).
  • Sushumna nadi (central channel). The channel of evolutionary ascent.
  • Pingala nadi (right channel). The channel of 'prana' (physical self).
Depression is a symptom of being over-balanced on the left channel.

Breathwork (prana-yama) is an activation of your right channel that counter balances the left channel. The affect of this is to pull you into the centre (balance) and out of depression.

The activation of the right channel can also be done by taking up physical exercise of some sort, such as going for brisk walks in nature, which deepens the breathing.
